5 All Natural, Non-Toxic Summer Skin and Hair Savers
All natural, non-toxic summer skin and hair savers?
We know, we know. Like many of these types of solutions, it sounds improbable, if not impossible.
However, we’ve worked hard to dig up the five best 100% natural remedies to apply to your precious pores and your silky strands to keep them healthy and looking great all summer long. Try them today!
Sunburn Cream
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
- 5 drops lavender oil
Mix these ingredients together for a sunburn reliever like no other.
NOTE: You must use 100% pure aloe vera gel. Read the back of the label to make sure aloe vera is the only ingredient in the gel you purchase.
You can get the oils for this recipe and the following ones at Doterra or Mad Mellies.
Chlorine Hair Rinse
Ingredients
- Apple cider vinegar
- Water
Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar + 4 parts water. Apply this combination to your hair.
You can also substitute the apple cider vinegar for baking soda. Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda + 1 cup of water and apply this directly to your hair.
If your hair feels slimy while you’re washing it with the solution, that means it’s working! Rinse it out of your hair and follow up with your normal hair care routine.
Moisturizing Hair Mask
Ingredients
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
Coconut oil is loaded with Vitamin E and healthy fatty acids that give it high moisture retention properties.
The chemical structure of coconut oil also allows it to penetrate the hair instead of just coating it, making it the perfect ingredient to add some moisture back into dry and damaged hair.
Avocados are packed full of vitamins that allow them to aid in hair growth, as well as repair damaged hair. Avocados also help improve the the strength of hair strands.
Bananas are high in natural oils and vitamins that soften the hair and help prevent breakage.
Bananas also aid in improving the appearance of your hair, can add a healthy glow to your strands, and aid in controlling dandruff. This is why banana hair masks are some of my favorites to make!
DIY Face Spritzer/ Refresher
Ingredients
- 1 small cucumber
- 1/3 cup of distilled water
- 1 tsp. of aloe vera
- 1 tsp. witch hazel
This cucumber-aloe hydrating mist is must for summer.
Peel and cut your cucumber (dice it or toss into a food processor). If you use a food processor, strain through a cheesecloth to extract the cucumber essence and to keep your mist light.
I like to include some of the diced pieces in the mix either way. Pour into your spray bottle along with the water, aloe vera, witch hazel and shake it up!
DIY Bug Spray
Ingredients
- 30 drops geranium essential oil
- 30 drops citronella essential oil
- 20 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
- 20 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil
- 1 TBSP vodka or rubbing alcohol
- ½ cup natural witch hazel
- ½ cup water (or vinegar)
- 1 tsp vegetable glycerin (optional)
For this homemade bug spray (it really works!), place essential oils in a glass spray bottle. Add vodka or alcohol and shake well to combine.
Pour in the witch hazel and shake to combine.
Add ½ teaspoon of vegetable glycerin if you choose to use this ingredients. It’s not necessary, but it does help everything stay mixed well.
Add water and shake again. In fact, shake before each use as the oils and water will naturally separate a little bit over time.
