6 Natural Allergy Remedies to Help You Conquer Pollen Season

Posted on March 7, 2018

We’re all looking forward to the warmer weather, but one part of the seasonal changes that isn’t so fun for many of us is allergies. But fear not! There are ways to tackle and prevent the symptoms naturally.

Instead of reaching for an over-the-counter solution, try these 6 natural allergy remedies first. You’ll be doing better for yourself and your family.

#1 – Make a Spring Anti-Stuffy Smoothie

Nothing is better than a smoothie – at any time of day – and they key ingredient in this springtime anti-stuffy one is bee pollen.

It’s crucial the bee pollen be as local to you as possible because it exposes you to the types of pollen you live around and – most importantly – desensitizes you to that pollen. Once you are desensitized to the pollen in your area, allergies won’t affect you so severely.

We recommend using Kennesaw Bee Pollen – you can find it at local Atlanta natural food store Nuts and Berries.

Just add a teaspoon or a tablespoon of the yellow bee pollen pellets to these ingredients – which are proven to reduce the effects of allergies – into your blender for a delicious drink that will help your keep allergies at bay:

  • water
  • apples
  • grapes
  • carrots
  • baby spinach

#2 – Eat Raw, Local Honey

That’s right – you’ve got to eat that honey raw.

As with bee pollen, though, it won’t work to cure allergies unless it’s local honey. Yes, we’re talking about honey that’s produced as close to where you live as possible.

You should take 1-3 teaspoons of honey a day, depending how severe your allergies. Sprinkle it
with a little bit of cinnamon to boost to your immune system (it tastes yummy, too!).

Honey is also useful in preventing and curing a sore throat. We recommend Zeiglar’s for all your honey needs.

#3 – Brew Nose-Happy Tea

Grab some nettle leaf tea to combat your allergies.

It’s not well known, but this tea reduces inflammation caused by allergies. You can get it at almost any grocery store. Add a little bit of that local honey, and you’ll be sure to make pollen powerless.

Honey loses its medicinal effects if it’s added to hot tea, so wait until your tea has cooled a bit before stirring in your golden syrup.

#4 – Take the Magic Pill

Yes, there is a magic pill for allergy sufferers!

At least, research is showing there’s a good possibility of one… introducing quercetin. It’s a supplement research has shown to have the same positive effects as leafy greens, tomatoes, berries and broccoli.

Research has also shown that when it’s taken daily over a long period of time, quercetin is helpful in warding off allergies.

#5 – Got a Bite? Use This Instead

If you get stung by a bee, wasp or even a mosquito, the allergic reaction can be annoying, if not painful. You can use a mixture of colloidal oatmeal (super fine oatmeal), local honey, and a drop of lavender oil to make a paste.

Apply the mixture to your bite or sting and cover it with a Band-aid.

The composition will sooth it and get rid of the itch, pain, redness and swelling.

#6 – Say Yes to the Neti Pot

A neti pot literally flushes your sinuses of infections, allergies and inflammation.

The neti pot gets to the parts of your sinuses you can’t get to any other way. Read the directions on your neti pot for usage instructions, as everyone is a little bit different. Typically, you put in about a quarter teaspoon of the salt that comes with the pot and then add water.

To prevent any contaminates that might be in your tap water from getting into your sinuses, opt for distilled water. Warm the water up, but be careful not to make it so hot you burn the inside of your nose.
